I don't know if all dogs do this or if it's just the flat-faced breeds that I love...but Hazel started doing something that Chris (the farm-dog-guy) had never seen before. I will always remember my childhood Boston Terrier, Oliver, getting in that hyper mood in the evenings and running full-speed through the hallways of our house. Secretly, I've been waiting for Hazel's first hyper run because I LOVE it!!! They get this crazy look in their eyes and it's like they don't care what the hit, run, ...
Welcome Home Hazel!
Yesterday was the start of a new chapter in our life…puppy parenthood!!! We left Hannibal mid-morning and headed towards Kirksville/Pagliai's. Yes, again! My parents decided to join us and meet their new grandchild…and the double-cheese-and-green-pepper-pizza (a staple in their college years) was just a bonus :) After lunch we made our way to Unionville and met the folks from Lazy T Bulldogs to pick up little Hazel! We had a really great experience with our breeders so if anyone you know is ...
Nesting
That's what Chris has called my behavior the last couple of weeks as we've been preparing for Hazel's arrival. Oh yeah, did I mention we're naming her Hazel? Well, there you go! Hazel Louise Calcara :) We are picking the little cutie up on Monday morning and bringing her back to her new home, which is now puppy-equipped and ready to go...Hazel doesn't know it yet, but she has a very shabby chic style and she looks great in turquoise and robin's egg blue. Sadly, these are the things I think ...

Here's a brief history of my embarrassing clumsiness…-5th grade: I attempt to run under a swinging jumprope in PE…then I plow straight into a basketball rack and break 5 teeth. Thank goodness for the dentist that fixed me up with a bunch of fake teeth!-8th grade: I eat a caramel apple lollipop in orchestra class and when I pull it off the roof of my mouth, ...
This is bad…
We don't even have her yet and I'm already going overboard with the puppy blog pics. Sorry, but I couldn't resist! No theme this week…just adorable! Only a few more weeks until she comes home with us! ...
Gower Family Reunion
32 years ago, my grandparents, Jim and Jennie Gower started a tradition. They invited their 7 children and their families to a weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks. For about 25 of those years, we all gathered at a little place called “The Temple”. It had a cockroach problem, smelled like dead fish, and hadn’t been updated since the 50’s…but it was tradition-- and it was fun. We’ve since moved up a couple of notches to a place called Big Bear Resort. It’s just the right size for our family of ...
