Scratch that, it’s been WAY too long since I’ve done any decorating projects! When I lived in Prairie Village, I loved finding stuff at flea markets and garage sales that I could paint and morph into the shabby chic, cottage style I love. But that was Prairie Village, in a 70 year old home…it just worked. Now that we live in a 5 year old home, I’ve found it really challenging to mix the old (my style) and the new (our house). But little by little, I’m making progress and I think kind of creating a whole new style. Now, on to the project…
During Britt’s bachelorette party weekend I was telling Erica about my idea of a mirror collage above our bed. I had started a collection of a few small mirrors, which I planned to paint once I had a few more. A few days later I had a link to the Cottage Instincts blog in my inbox from Erica. And what do you know, the coolest mirror collage I had EVER seen! I’m not even going to show you guys because it really makes ours look pathetic! Anyway, this got me motivated to start scouring stores and flea markets for all of the right mirrors. I also decided that the boring blank wall above the stairs going down to our basement was an even better spot for the new project. So here goes…
The wall before…
The mirror collection before…and a little key for a touch of something different
Stole this idea from Cottage Instincts. It helped us play around with the placement and make sure we loved it before we started hanging.
Thank goodness for my little handyman!
And finally…ta da!
We are really happy with the finished product! Hopefully this will be the first of many “making our new home old” projects. Stay tuned 🙂
