If you’ve been reading for awhile you already know this–I love old stuff. Antique stores and flea markets make me happy…and I guess you could say I get a thrill out of hunting for that perfect piece. Or when I come across a total gem that I didn’t even know I needed — yeah, that’s fun too. I still dream about the 2 days we spent in Round Top and can’t wait to get back there again soon. (Who’s in?!) But since antiques week is only twice a year (and an 11 hour drive for me now), I decided to spend Saturday morning at the next best place in KC — the West Bottoms. The first weekend of the month, every shop is open for their big “warehouse sale”. You can find a mix of vintage, antique, and repurposed items while strolling through historic old buildings in KC.
Before I go “hunting” I usually make a list of the things I’m looking for — otherwise it can be extremely overwhelming! This time I had one thing in mind: a long dough bowl like this one for this nook in our kitchen. Armed with Christmas money and the necessary caffeine, I headed to the West Bottoms on Saturday morning for a kid-free treasure hunt.
Oh and I wore my Uggs from college, which I realize are totally not cool anymore…but gosh they are so comfy and cozy. I’m on a mission to bring them back!
But really…is this place heavenly or what?
I’ll take everything…thanks.
I think I went to just about every floor of every store (I was ready for a nap when I got home!), but sadly left without the dough bowl I’d been dreaming about. I did find this amazing one (straight from Round Top!) but it was basically a canoe and wouldn’t have come close to fitting in my kitchen nook. It sure was beautiful though…
On the bright side, I did find this small round dough bowl for just $15. I love it!
My other steal for the day was this old printers tray that I’m planning to hang in our laundry room and use for storing essential oils — a great idea that Emily posted on Facebook recently. I think this makes me an official hippy/witch doctor, but whatever 😉
Even though I didn’t find exactly what I was hunting for, I came home feeling refreshed from some me time. No one tugging at my shirt, no one asking why (x 1,000), no one needing to be fed…just me and some pretty junk 🙂

Okay, let me rephrase that–MY uggs are so not cool anymore!! Haha. They’re the very first ones from like 10 years ago and they look like they’ve been to hell and back. But I love them and can’t stop wearing them!!! There are definitely a lot of new Uggs that I like! 😉

So cool, I need to find cool events like that around here. I know there are some places in the city I think for ol refurbished and reclaimed items, but not sure how frequent that is.

That is a super cute dough bowl! I have been hunting for one myself. and that is a GENUIS idea for storing oils.. we only have 15 or so and I’ve been trying to figure out how to store them!
Vanessa says
Isn’t it cool?!? And apparently they’re easy to find at antique stores and flea markets…I probably saw 10-15 on Saturday! And I only have about 20 bottles, but I’m tired of seeing them just lined up against the wall!

So glad you got to sneak away! You deserve it!! And you are a decorating God. I would give anything to have your sense of style in the decorating world…or to have you redecorate my house from top to bottom. P.S. I think I told you 14 weeks until summer. I was wrong. Only 13. 🙂 🙂
Vanessa says
Oh please!!! I love your house and everything you’ve decorated with! And yes…13 weeks until our summer o’ fun!!!!
Emily says
Looks like my kind of place! So glad you got to escape for a little “me” time! You deserve it. Only wish I would have been with ya! Love the dough bowl and the old printer thing, that’s going to look super cool in your laundry room! XOXO

Haha! UGGS-I totally didn’t know they aren’t cool anymore! They are like wearing slippers everywhere, I just got a new short black pair!! Aaahaaaa
Vanessa says
Okay, now I feel bad for not being clear!! I think Uggs are still cool…just not my 10 year old beat-up ones!!! But they’re so comfy that I don’t even care! And I think the short ones are adorable!! 🙂
Morgan says
sounds like a great day!
p.s. everyone in Minnesota still wears Uggs…I figure if it’s cold enough where you are, then it’s still totally acceptable. I totally want a new pair.

Youve been to Round Top!!! I’m in awe. That place is totally on my Bucket List!
Vanessa says
It’s AMAZING!!! You have to go!!!: )

Oh how fun!!! I wish we had stores like that around here. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have a lot of room in our place right now for decorative things, but one day I will have a house and it’s game on! If my house looks 1/8 as gorgeous as yours, I’ll have done something right!

Last year was my first time experiencing all the beauty that is Round Top! You are right, it can get a little overwhelming because YOU WANT EVERYTHING or at least I do…and I live in CA so that makes it a little difficult to bring home, lol! This place looks so fun to spend a day or afternoon at. Good for you!
Jen says
The printers tray is a great idea for essential oil storage!!! I might just have to steal that one.
