one.
These two had their first preschool “Dad’s Night” this week! They did crafts, read stories, and made ice cream sundaes. Pretty much Arden’s perfect night…and I know she was excited to share it with her favorite guy.

Raise your hand if you’re over puffy kids coats?!? Seriously…over it. I feel like my kids don’t even wear coats half the time because it’s just quicker to run like a mad woman than it is to stand out in the parking lot bundling and zipping. I’m thinking about buying them each a nice *thin* (but still super warm) North Face coat for next year. A friend told me they were on sale at Nordstrom right now, so I’m considering this for Arden…and this one for Nash.
Before I buy…do you have any favorite winter coats for kids that don’t make them look like a giant marshmallow?!

Like the rest of the world, I’m having a love affair with Fixer Upper (more to come on that next week!) And shiplap….ohhhh shiplap. I want it everywhere. I haven’t broken the news to Chris (aka my handyman) yet, but I’ve got a few spots picked out to add some pretty new paneling–and I thought our mudroom/pantry/office would be a good place to start. Wouldn’t a little shiplap add the perfect farmhouse touch to this space?
I mean, how pretty is this?!?

Nash is the best hugger of all time. He wraps his arms around you, clasps his hands, goes cheek to cheek…and doesn’t let go.
Melts. My. Heart.

Truth.
Happy weekend to you!!!!

Your posts always make me smile. Gotta love the Daddy-daughter date. YES, shiplap will be perfect there. Love me some Fixer Upper (cutest couple too). Those Nash hugs look perfect and I’m with you on the clean house thing haha. Happy Friday!
Vanessa says
Aren’t they?!? Love me some Chip & Jo Jo! 😉
Andy Hayes says
Got the coats you won’t regret it! That’s all my girls wear now. Worth the money.
Vanessa says
Okay, I’m going to do it! I know Lindsay’s girls wear theirs all the time. At least Arden will have some hand-me-downs starting at age 6 😉
Leslie @ Martin Manifesto says
So I’m totally out of the loop and had to google “shiplap”…which happened to take me directly to the “Fixer Upper” website. Ha! Anyway…I LOVE that look! Can’t wait to see what you do with it! Happy Weekend!
Vanessa says
I know, I’d never heard it called that until I watched the show…but isn’t it so pretty?!
Elizabeth says
Hahaha! That last quote! Yep. Pretty much. Clean and then dirty 0.2 seconds later.
Nash’s hugs!!! So sweet! Mason started doing this thing where when I ask for a picture, he smashed his face against mine and says cheeee! Doesn’t always make for the prettiest pictures but it sure is the sweetest!
And yes! Ship lap that bad boy! Sorry Chris but I’m with you on that one!
Vanessa says
Aww Mason! How sweet! My dad calls that cheek to cheek pose the “sorority pose” 😉 And good news–Chris seemed all for the shiplap idea. Hooray!!!
Shellie says
Boy hugs are the best! I had to do a double take at the pic of Arden in the coat nook. I thought it was Maren!!.and just when I was thinking they didn’t look so much alike.
Vanessa says
You’re so right!!! I think it’s their profiles that look the most alike?? 🙂
Caley says
OMG!!!! Those hugs??? I would kill for one right now – he is just too cute! x
Vanessa says
I know it…I’m seriously obsessed!! 🙂 Have a great weekend, friend!
Jessica says
I hear ya on the coats. Ugh!! I spend more time with them in the cold trying to get coats on to go into a store where they immediately want them off. Hate it! Love fixer upper and shiplap! That would look awesome in your house!
Vanessa says
Yep…isn’t it frustrating!? And then they take up half your cart at the store!!!
Laura Keenan says
Dad’s night?! How fun! And yes, Shiplap is amazing so you should definitely add some to your house.
Vanessa says
Isn’t it?? They have a mom’s night coming up soon too, which should be fun. If this first little spot turns out well, I may go shiplap crazy!! 😉
Erinn says
Seriously, I’m the worst mom. My kids only wear The North Face fleece jackets. The heavier “snow” coats I keep strictly for snow play or bring with if going to be outside somewhere very cold. I’m crazy about the carseat rules, so no puffy coats. Just fleece jackets, hats, and mittens. I’ll bundle them up under if really really cold, which thankfully this year hasn’t been as bad as the last few despite our 28″ of snow!
Vanessa says
First of all–28 inches!! That’s INSANE! A good NF fleece is a good idea too. I think as long as they’ve got that and a hat on, they should be good to go for as long as we’re going to be outside. I just feel like a terrible parent when we walk into preschool next to kids in full snow gear!!!
Mateya says
Hayden has a “puffy” North Face like the one you posted above and it’s great. Not too big, not too light. Brooks’ is actually a Columbia one (handmedown from Hayden of course) but it’s the same thickness. Perfect for carseats!
Vanessa says
Okay good to know…I’ll have to check out Columbia too! And you’re so lucky you get to do hand-me-downs! I don’t think Nash would be too happy with a magenta coat 😉
Desiree says
How sweet was that Daddy/Daughter date?!! Will Arden be attending any Daddy/Daughter dances this year? I know the city I worked for (which neighbors your city) always held one right around Valentine’s Day. It was one of the best events we hosted. Also – Cinderella made an appearance at the dance… 🙂
Chip and Jo. My favorite!!! I would give my right arm to have them do out next house (when ever and where ever that may be).
And the last meme. Yes.
Happy Weekend, friend!
