I used to be a 10pm lights-out kind of girl…but the past couple of weeks I’ve found it hard to make it to bed before midnight. So what changed? Well the closer we get to our move date, the more I’m starting to stress about what exactly is going to go IN this new house of ours. You see, before we left Houston I pretty much sold everything we had on Craigslist. Whoops 🙂 Truth is, my style has changed a lot since most of that furniture and decor was purchased (a lot of it right out of college)…and because we plan to be in this home for a long time, I want to buy things that are going to last just as long.
That being said…it’s almost impossible to turn my brain off at night! If Arden is sleeping, you can bet that I’m scouring the internet for the best deals I can find on rugs, chairs, lamps, nursery decor, etc, etc. ETC! Or looking for decor inspirations online. Some of the decor options on sites like Neon Filter almost make me want to Shop Now… but I have to control myself. I’m sure Arden would not want to wake up to several plant hangings and 10 new rugs. So I’ve mostly been taking my findings and committing them to mood boards. And if it’s possible to be addicted to mood boards, then I’m guilty. Something about just seeing my ideas pasted together side by side makes me feel like I’m making progress.
These are some of the rugs I’ve had my eye on…
I’m planning to order from rugsUSA.com…they just have so many choices, not to mention WAY better prices than any of the stores we’ve visited so far. But ordering a rug without seeing it in person makes me a bit of a nervous nelly. If you’ve ordered from this website, I’d love to know what you thought of it! I’ve heard great things so far!
And if you follow me on Pinterest, you may already know that there will be animal heads of some kind mounted in the baby’s room. He is sure to have a farm animal phobia when he grows up…but I just love the look 😉 I mean, doesn’t everyone want to wake up to Mr. Ed, Charlotte & Bessie looking down over them?! Ha! Oh and I’m sure he’ll be thrilled someday that I used the term “farm chic” to describe his first room. Hey, as moms we have to do things the way we like them while we still can…until it’s all characters, sports teams, and the like!
Right now it’s not much more than a mood board, but we do actually have the new crib and the glider (from Arden’s room)…so there will be at least TWO things in the little guy’s room! 😉
We’ve also made some progress in the living room and kitchen, thanks to a Nebraska Furniture Mart date a couple weeks ago. My parents watched Arden for the morning and Chris and I spent a good 4.5 hours searching for the perfect furniture…and had some luck!
Just try to picture this couch in a light gray WITHOUT those “interesting” pillows…
And two of these beauties to go with it…
And finally, a kitchen table that I’ve been dreaming about for a long time!
Lastly, I’m just waiting on a Pier 1 coupon before I get my hands on 3 of these gems for our kitchen island. I think they’re going to be perfect!
Don’t worry, I do realize that everything we have so far has a common theme…very neutral, very gray! So now it’s time to find accent pieces that will pop!
I just need to keep reminding myself that the house will be a work in progress for awhile and that is OKAY! I don’t want to make the mistake of buying a bunch of stuff I don’t love just to fill the space. We’re going to have a place to sit and a table to eat at…so we should be good for awhile, right?!?
So what about you? Do you have any favorite shops for home decor and furniture? Or do you just want to decorate my house for me? And keep me on budget? 😉 Now that would be really great!
Well thanks for listening to me ramble once again. And with that, it’s 11:45–time to get some shut-eye 🙂 Happy Friday, y’all!

I love seeing what people my age and stage in life are picking for their new homes. I hope to be doing the same next year! I love everything you've picked and that nursery will be so cute!

I love your style, both old house and what you are picking for the new home! I can't wait to see it all come together. Beautiful!

I've been doing so much of the same thing. When I'm up in the middle of the night I'm usually pinning home décor photos or shopping online for nursery items or Blaire's big kid room. It's addicting! We moved into our house a year ago and I had to fight the instinct to buy stuff to fill the space too. It's been a year and we still have an entirely empty room – but so far I love most of the pieces we've chosen. Eventually my house will feel decorated. For now, a work in progress. 😉
Love baby boy's farm chic nursery inspiration. The animal heads are fun and I love navy!

My big plans are to sell almost everything in our house as soon as I have a contract in hand on this house. I have the exact same issue as you. Everything in our home now I bought 7-8 years ago and I am definitely ready to redecorate and spruce everything up!! Of course, it will be a long and slow process and we'll probably be sitting in a mostly empty house for a while ha!!
NFM is the best, man.

oooh I can't wait to have a home to decorate! I'm sure I'll have the same problem…no shutting off the mind, endless searches, obsession over finding the perfect what not, and trying to stay on budget! Good luck =) haha, I love the farm chic! And, so true…I still get to pick the things because Aria can't, it only lasts so long so I must take advantage of it!

I have ordered two rugs off rugsUSA. I have loved both of them. Great quality. If you can wait, wait until they have the rugs go on sale for 70% off. You just can't beat their prices when they are that much on sale.

oh my gosh! I love your taste and am enjoying reading your blog-especially your candid look at your journey through IVF…thank you for that. My husband and I just got settled into a new home also, and I am feeling so inspired by all of your choices in decorating, etc. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find that dining table? It is absolutely gorgeous!
