Hey there, friends…hope you all had a fabulous Memorial Day! We spent the entire weekend at my in-laws’ farm and had a great time as usual–more to come on that tomorrow though. Right now I need some advice…
So let’s just pretend you are building a house and you need to decide on light fixtures…you know, by 1pm today 🙂 You’re using gray tones throughout the house and your kitchen will be white–with light countertops and a gray painted island. Plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware will all be satin nickel…but what do you do about the darn lights?
Option 1:
Stick with the satin nickel to match the grays and other fixtures in the house?
Option 2:
Go with the wrought iron/bronze look to make more of a statement?
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I go back and forth between thinking the nickel is too match-matchy and then thinking the iron doesn’t match at all!
Thanks in advance for your help…and also for not laughing about my oh-so-serious life decisions 😉
And just for the fun of it, here are a few pictures from our latest “drop-in” last week. Checking on the status of the house is definitely becoming a favorite pastime for me…it’s right up there with naps these days 🙂 Also, please disregard our serious overuse of the thumbs up. We’re just really excited!

Oh I am LOVING the house progress!! I would do the brushed nickel, it looks more clean to me. I'm also a fan of whites and neutrals haha.. can't wait to seeeee!
Kassi says
I love the wrought iron 🙂 Looks beautiful!

Yay, so exciting!! I am feeling the brushed nickel, and I love, love a white kitchen!!! And thumbs up as much as you want – I would be doing the sane thing!! 🙂

Love the wrought iron and don't think mixing is bad, we totally do it!

I really don't think you can go wrong with either light choices, but I know I like things to match so I would probably go with the nickel. Anything you choose will look great though! You guys have great taste! Also? I love the staircase in your new house. Gorgeous!

what a beautiful home (even unfinished!)! loving the curved staircase and outdoor fireplace. i'm liking the look of the brushed nickel, personally, but if you do the wrought iron i might grab a couple of other accent pieces (a shelf) or some dark stools to bring it all together. 🙂

Traditionally, I'm a matchy matchy kind of gal, but I'm really digging the kitchens with the wrought iron.
From the looks of the comments so far, you can't go wrong with either choice 🙂
Alana says
Brushed nickel, definitely. I think it'll flow better and you can make less-permanent statement pieces that you can change out if you want later down the line. Lighting is pretty permanent. 🙂 Looks like it's going to be a gorgeous house!

We did a mix of both and we have the same color pallet. In the kitchen we such with satin, but in the breakfast nook area we did a darker finish with some rope accents, I really like the mix and match feel. We did the same thing with door and cabinet hardware doors are orb and kitchen pulls and stuff are satin! Good Luck!! It will all work out in the end!!

Your house is going to be gorgeous! I vote for the bronze. It seems more classic and timeless to me and based on the pics you posted it would be a great statement but not a trendy, in-your-face one.
Hannah Karlin says
I love either choice but if I had to choose I would do the wrought iron. Picture 4 and 5 I believe. I feel like it would tie in your rustic features throughout the rest of the house (barn door headboard and whatever else you have planned). Either way you go it will look awesome!

I like the wrought iron look!!! Can't wait to see things come together, it looks BEAUTIFUL!

I'm loving the new house and I love the darker lighting. It pops and definitely adds some contrast for a nice change (:

oooh I'd go with option 1 if I had to pick, but I think you really can't go wrong either way! Plus, I'm late anyways…unless Kansas is two hours behind, then I might just be under the wire. Time zones and math…too much effort for nap time, right?

Seems like our houses are going to have some of the same looks/feel to them 🙂 I tend to be very matchy-matchy, so my initial instinct would be to go with the brushed nickel. However, that wrought iron is so fabulous, and I would probably choose that! Nickel on lighting fixtures tends to give me more of a modern vibe compared with the wrought iron which gives more of a rustic flare with out going overboard. Excited to see what you choose!
Jen says
I vote the darker! It'll look really good and stand out.

Bronze 🙂

Ok SO happy to read this post and the comments as I spent hours pouring over light fixtures this weekend as we are about to start building in TX!

I'm thinking about all of this right now too. BIG decisions indeed!! We are doing some similar style and colors and I'm thinking wrought iron. Both would look great tho! 🙂
Colleen Sullivan says
I really like either of them! I know you already had to make your choice and I know whatever you picked will look great!
Sarah says
I'm definitely a rubbed bronze girl with fixtures! Looking good though, what neighborhood is this? I bet I know someone that lives near you!!

I love the satin nickel option! Sounds like it will be beautiful!

It's stunning — love all of the tall windows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much fun change going on for y'all! Congrats to Chris on his last day today (and yay! for him finally making it there officially tomorrow). Love keeping up with the progress and picking your brain for ideas / guidance! This is a fun, but challenging process in a way… big decisions!

I'm no help, I like both 🙂 What did you end up going with? The house looks gorgeous! I love all those big windows! One of my least favorite things about the matchbox apartment we are living in now is the lack of natural light. So that will definitely be way up high on my list of "must haves" for when we move!
