What I’ll miss about Texas…
Our friends. Have I mentioned that yet?!?
Cinco Ranch: The first time I drove through our “neighborhood” I was just amazed. I’m used to 200-300 homes in a neighborhood, not 14,000! And the pools, the pools! I kind of hope Arden forgets how awesome they are before Kansas pool season rolls around…
Texas pride. I just love how much Texans love Texas!
Bluebonnets. In Texas, April is all about finding a field full of wildflowers and throwing your child in it for pictures 🙂 I’m so happy we were able to do just that for Arden’s 18 month pictures…such a sweet Texas memory!
Rodeo. March is probably my favorite month in Houston–it’s rodeo month!! The cook off, the concerts, the bull riding…I love it all!
What I’ve Missed About Kansas…
Family and friends. Duh!
Fall! While I love the warmer climate in Houston, I have desperately missed Fall in Kansas. The crisp air, the leaves falling…it’s the perfect time to put on a hoody and bake something pumpkin spiced! Throw a new baby into the mix and I think we’ve got the recipe for the perfect Fall 🙂
Manhattan, Kansas. MHK, The Little Apple, Manhappiness…whatever you call it, it’s pretty much the greatest place on earth! I can’t WAIT for football season!!!!!
Mr. Goodcents and Pizza Shoppe. No explanation necessary.
Not having to travel all the time! It was a pretty glorious feeling to make that 12 hour drive (with a toddler) for the LAST time! We’ll definitely be flying when we go back to visit.
Boot and scarf weather. See “Fall” above. I can’t wait! 🙂
Snow. I may regret saying this come February/March, but I’m excited about snow–at least in December! It just makes the holidays so magical. Plus, who doesn’t love to be snowed in every once in awhile??
Basements and big yards. Space, space, space! Is it normal to be excited about organizing the storage area in our basement? Adios annoying attic space!!!
Watching my nieces and nephews grow up. This has been (by far!) the hardest aspect of living out of state for me. I’m so happy to be here for soccer games, school programs, family get-togethers, etc. Now I just hope they don’t get tired of me!

We lived in Southern California for a few years and at the time I hated moving back home to Oklahoma. But actually coming home was oh-so sweet. I had forgotten how much I had missed it.
I know it will be so different but I know over time you'll be so thankful to be home again.

Yay for a move back home! & super yay to be near family. We're military so I definitely know how being away from family goes.

I know it's bittersweet, but I am happy for you!!! I know it had to be hard moving that far from your family!!! Xo

I love this, especially since being in your shoes a few years ago! I would have to agree with mostly everything about Kansa except Manhattan, haha we are ku fans! Don't hate me;)

Kansas is so happy to have you back! Can't wait for the cool fall, toddler play dates and of course having our sweet new babies meet for the first time!!!

I'm so happy for you guys to be moving home to family and your roots! We're from 5th generation San Franciscan families, and I don't think we'll ever move because we think there is no place like home for us. No place like home.. didn't Dorothy say that?

Having grown up in Olathe, Kansas holds such a special place in my heart!! We love love love Kansas City 🙂
Sometime when you're all settled in we should get our girls together!

Great post! I'm sure TX is sad to not have you but KS is really excited you are back!

I second your recipe for the perfect fall! I miss that the most from my time in CO, FL is pretty anti-fall.

We miss so much about Kansas, too. Fall is at the top of the list! And, I'm pretty sure my husband would agree with you about Manhattan! I totally agree with Mr. Goodcents and Pizza Shoppe (do they sell their salad dressing?!)!
You may be losing the pretty Bluebonnets, but you'll soon have lots of sunflowers for gorgeous photo ops. 🙂

I'm excited about your move. Texas is awesome, but there's no place quite like home. 🙂
Emily says
And this seriously just made me cry! I miss you friend! But am truly so excited for Y'ALL!!! 😉

Bittersweet is a feeling I'm sure you've felt a lot during this time. Although it sounds like you are doing a great job of focusing on the "sweet" part of it! Oh, and when we moved away from Houston for a while, the rodeo was one of the things I knew I would miss most, too! It's just the best!! I actually have a VERY LATE rodeo recap post coming up soon.
