If you’ve been following along here for awhile, you probably know all about the Calcara’s “Fat Hog 500”–a Memorial Weekend celebration that my in-laws have been throwing since the 70’s. Chris did a recap in 2011 and I wrote about the 2012 hog roast here. Reading through those old posts just now reminded me of why I love blogging so much…so many great memories tucked away in my little corner of the web 😉
So before I bombard you with a gazillion pictures, here are some highlights from Arden’s very first Fat Hog 500:
- Rode Grandpa’s tractor!
- Zoomed around the barn {backwards} in her walker.
- Mastered the tummy to sitting thing.
- Went to the Great Bend Zoo for the first time.
- Got to hang out with her second cousins Hank, Hunter and Violet…first cousins Maren, Norah and Will…and met her Wichita buddy, Graham.
- Ate hog hash. Yum!
- Went swimming at the Best Western with her cousins. A new tradition, perhaps?
- Got in lots of quality time with Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle T and Kelly. Received a cool Justin Bieber card from Taylor 🙂
- “Drove” the beer truck.
- Got her 4th tooth.
- Had her first taste of Delgado’s. Better write this one down in the baby book!

So there you have it…another fun, crazy, memorable Fat Hog is in the books! I married into an amazing family and feel so lucky to be a part of this wonderful tradition. I can’t help but smile thinking about the years to come where Arden will be running around {in her farm shoes!}, playing games in the yard and getting dirty with her cousins. So many good times ahead!
A special thanks to my in-laws for all of the hard work they put into making this party happen. It is truly one of the best weekends of the year! So good that Chris is complaining about having to wait a whole year to do it again. 🙂
