Chris turned 28 on Sunday and we made an all-weekend celebration out of it. He told me that the only thing he wanted for his birthday was a French silk pie. Is this guy easy to please or what?!
Since I wanted my only gift to him to be a good one, I decided to leave the baking to the professionals and not attempt it myself 🙂
Friday night we ordered Chinese and Arden helped her Daddy blow out his candles.
Chris wanted to make sure I’d save them for his 82nd birthday as well…
It seemed only fitting that Arden should get a gift on her Dad’s birthday 🙂
So far she’s only figured out reverse. but I know she’ll be zooming around the house in no time.
On Saturday we decided to take a little roadtrip to Chappell Hill, TX for their annual Bluebonnet Festival. Okay, I decided we should take this roadtrip and somehow, someway–Chris agreed.
I used a pitstop for “the best burgers in Austin County” to persuade him…
The Hill in Bellville is a little hole-in-the-wall that definitely lived up to its rave reviews. However, I can’t speak to the “best burger” part…I’m an 8-year-old and always order chicken fingers 🙂
After lunch it was on to the main event! Chappell Hill is a tiny town of about 500 people that hosts the state’s official Bluebonnet Festival every spring. I’m a sucker for small towns and festivals…so you know this was right up my alley!
We strolled around, shopped, listened to music, and enjoyed a couple of cold bevs. So much fun!
Yes…
This little sweetheart didn’t fuss once, but this is the look she gave me as I tried to apply sunscreen for the fifteenth time…
We also purchased a fun magnetic board for her playroom while we were there.
Finally, we ended the day by taking a chance at more Bluebonnet pictures. Arden was pretty worn out, but when we saw an open field on 290 we decided to at least try.
The outcome was a lot better than the first time…although the first ones were definitely very memorable 🙂
I couldn’t believe how many people were out taking pictures that day! We passed one field that was filled with literally hundreds of people. There were kids plopped down in the Bluebonnets every few feet…it was craziness!
Love those blonde lashes…
And finally, this munchkin decided to rest her eyes. What a long, fun day 🙂
We must have talked about how much fun we were having 20 times that day. Okay, again, I talked about it but Chris agreed…like really agreed. Believe me, I can tell the difference!
Sunday I had big plans to surprise Chris with an afternoon at Top Golf. However, when we found out it was a 3 hour wait to play, we opted for lunch instead 😉
We came across this little Mediterranean place in the Energy Corridor that was so so good. I guess sometimes the best restaurants are the ones you just stumble upon!
So in the end, Chris got a pie, a gyro, and a baby for his birthday. Not too shabby…
Oh and I can’t forget the FaceTime performance of “Tim McGraw” from his favorite four-year-old. I wish I could’ve seen “Norah Swift” in action, but I was at the grocery store 🙁 I heard it was amazing though!

Sometimes I’m just overwhelmed by how wonderful life is with this guy by my side. It blows me away that we’ve started our family hundreds of miles from home and managed to make it all work together. All while having a great time!
I’m so very thankful for my husband, but I think he might have an even bigger fan in our house…
Happy Birthday, Chris!!!
28 is going to be the best year yet…I’m sure of it 🙂
