How is it already Wednesday?? Three days into the week and I feel like I’m still not back in the swing of things! That’s probably because we had such a wonderful weekend with friends in Fredericksburg. Fun hangover? I’d say so…
I’m sure I don’t have the only overly-sensitive dog that starts panicking the minute suitcases come out…but isn’t this just pathetic?
Arden wanted to bring her along! |
Speaking of suitcases, Arden finally got to break in the Christmas gifts from all of her grandparents. Yes, we’ve traveled since Christmas–but we flew and I really didn’t want to check her pretty little suitcase and get it all scuffed up. Yes, I realize this is ridiculous.
As soon as Chris got home from work on Thursday, we headed out to meet the rest of the gang and caravan to hill country.
We rented the cutest little house, which was on some land about 5 minutes from downtown Fredericksburg. I’ve never stayed in a rental that actually turned out to be as nice (or nicer) than it looked in the pictures…but with this one we were pleasantly surprised! It was just perfect for our three little families.
And yes, the farmhouse sink was a factor in our decision to rent this particular house 🙂
When we arrived we pulled a “Real World” and went in to pick out our rooms. Lucky for me, my husband’s hidden rock-paper-scissors talent won us the master suite. Arden felt like a queen 🙂
After the babies woke up from their morning naps on Friday, we grabbed some lunch and headed out to our first winery, Becker Vineyards. I remember watching a Pregnant in Heels episode where Rosie Pope took an expecting couple to a winery with a fake crying baby. In the end they decided that it wasn’t doable. Well Rosie…I think we may have proven you wrong 🙂
Arden and Henry watching their first wine tasting. |
Excuse me dad, I’ll take that! |
They’re good dads 🙂 |
Checking out the vineyard and comparing it to the one back in GB 🙂 |
Family pic! |
Another thing I love about Texas? This is what the parking lots look like 🙂 |
After Becker, we were on to the next stop–Pedernales.
As we were pulling in I realized just how well my husband knows me. As soon as I took out my cell phone to take a picture, he slowed down, continued with whatever he was talking about, and then sped back up when I was done. I didn’t even have to ask! Guess he’s got me and my photo-documenting ways figured out 🙂
This place was great! They had a huge patio with an awesome view–plus the weather could not have been more perfect.
While 2 out of the 3 babies napped (I’ll let you guess which one didn’t!), we ladies enjoyed our moscatos on the patio and the dads headed down the road to the Albert Ice House for “a” beer. They came back with all sorts of stories about this cool little hole-in-the-wall. I’m kind of intrigued and will probably have to make a trip out there next time.
I love her too much 🙂 |
No nap for this kid, but she was still a happy little thing. |
So big! |
This just makes me heart happy. |
The whole gang! We’re so lucky to have them as friends. |
We ended the day at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company for dinner, then back to the house for bath time. We had envisioned lots of cute pictures of the babies taking a bath together…but instead it was a scream fest and lasted about 15 seconds 🙂 Maybe next time. Ha!
Saturday was our designated shopping day on Main Street. Fredericksburg is an adorable little German town with tons of great shops and lots of restaurants along the way.
Arden and Avery–ready to roll. Love those chubby legs 🙂 |
And this is pretty much how it went…the dads pushed while we ran into the stores. Not a bad deal really! |
And we celebrated when this one finally took a nap in her stroller. I don’t think this has happened since she was maybe 2 months old! |
A quick pit stop for some refreshments. |
Maybe the first picture of just the two of us in almost 8 months?!? |
At the end of the day we thought we’d try a little Texas tradition and get pictures of our babies in the Bluebonnets. It seemed to be going really well…
First there was Avery, just as sweet and happy as could be!
And then there was Arden 🙂 |
Needless to say, we didn’t get any cute pictures of Arden in the Bluebonnets. We’re going to give it another try this weekend! |
Mad, mad, mad. |
After that gigantic meltdown, it was back home to play some more and then put the little ones down for the night.
After the kiddos were in bed it was pizza, basketball and board games for the adults. Not a bad Saturday night if you ask me! We played “The Game of Things,” which as it turns out, I’m terrible at. However, it was still fun…weird…and hilarious all at the same time 🙂
And before we knew it Sunday morning came and it was time to load our massive amounts of stuff back into the cars and head home.
Such a cool little traveler. |
I feel like I learned a LOT this weekend, and I’m not just talking about wine. I was definitely a little anxious about going on a vacation with my routine-loving baby. She’s not a car or stroller napper, so we are always home for her naps and bedtime…and we rarely push the limit. But going into the weekend I decided to make a conscious effort to just relax and not worry so much about her routine. And much to my surprise, she rocked it. Sure she missed a couple naps and had a cranky moment or two–but in the end, I realized that she is much more flexible than I’ve ever given her credit for. Or maybe it’s just that she feeds off of my type-A attitude…and when I have a glass of wine, it’s easier for everyone to relax?! Either way, it worked out and we had so much fun!
So now that our awesome weekend is over I’m ready to plan the next getaway.
Cheers to good friends and a great hill country weekend 🙂
