I can still vividly remember the first time I met my friend Emily. It was rush 2003 and she was sitting in the Derb telling stories and making everyone at the table laugh hysterically. She had completely lost her voice throughout the week but that didn’t stop her from cracking jokes. The next day we both pledged Pi Phi, and over our 4 years at K-State, became best friends.
During that time we took very few serious pictures…
Okay, there’s one…
We spent the majority of the 5 years after that in separate cities, but still remained extremely close. The first time I met Emily’s co-woker and secret boyfriend (haha) Jeff, it was pretty obvious there was something special between them. They shared the same quick wit and goofy sense of humor–and Jeff treated Emily like a queen from the very beginning. Seriously, he is one of the nicest guys ever.
Then there was an engagement, a beautiful baby boy, and just this past weekend–a wedding.
It started with lunch and an afternoon at the nail salon. Jackson was there for the fun too.
Saturday morning it was time to get beautiful. I have a few extra-terrestrial wedding hairdos in the past, so Emily told me I could do my own. What a doll 🙂
Here she is as the stylist puts on the finishing touches.
Perfect!
I had a great time spending the weekend with my two best friends, and all of the wonderful gals in Emily’s family.
Finishing up at the salon…
When we got to the church, it was Jackson’s turn to get handsome. I still can’t get over this outfit…
Em’s dress was absolutely stunning. And did I mention she had a baby SIX weeks ago? As Lauren would say, “she is woman”.
The ceremony was awesome and so meaningful. The pastor read letters that Emily and Jeff had written to each other and it was such a neat way for everyone there to share in the celebration and see how perfect they are for each other.
Another bonus was the I didn’t pass out and ruin the entire wedding. Apparently it’s been a long time since I’ve stood that long in heels! While that would’ve made for a memorable ceremony …it probably wasn’t what they were going for!
Then it was limo/picture time and off to the party!
I know I’ve raved about her before, but Rebecca Peters is amazing! We were crunched for time but she was so relaxed and wonderful…just a blast to have around all day. I can’t wait to see all of the awesome shots she got!
One of the highlights of the night was the Bernie that turned into the Bernie/Dougie hybrid. Gart and Hot Carl broke it down…
We haven’t had a Pi Phi wedding in a looong time, so it was like a breath of fresh air to see all of these girls again! I love the fact that we can go months without seeing each other but the minute we’re back together it feels like college again. Only I was never pregnant in college…that’s definitely different. However, I’ve found that with these girls (even without the absurd amounts of alcohol), I can still end the night with a stomach ache from laughing so hard. So. much. fun!
So congrats to the Matlocks and thank you for letting me be a part of the big day! There’s really nothing better than watching one of your bet friends marry their perfect match 🙂 Love you guys!
