You know you don’t have kids when…
You dress your dog up for her 1st birthday.
Bake her a special puppy cake.
And drive an hour so she can play on the beach. Okay, that was kind of for us, but she still had the time of her life.
All in all, it was a dog-gone-good day. We all went to sleep happy.
Then today came.
Chris goes to work really early, so he always puts Hazel in bed with me when he leaves. Today she immediately jumped off the bed, so I knew she wanted to go outside. I let her out and then we went back to bed. She was kind of rolling around, acting like something was bothering her, but I ignored it and hit the snooze button another time. When I woke up I could tell her eye was a little irritated.
Within 30 minutes she looked like this…
I couldn’t bear looking at her…it was the saddest thing in the world! So pitiful and so helpless. I just wanted her to be able to talk and tell me what had happened. In the midst of the panic, I couldn’t help but think she seriously resembled Marysol’s mom, Elsa, from the Real Housewives of Miami.
Ahhhhhh!
Luckily, the vet was able to see her at 8am. She said it was definitely a reaction to an insect bite of some sort. I felt much better knowing that it wasn’t the birthday cake! Anyway, one expensive steroid shot later…and our sweet little Hazel was back to her happy self.
So apparently we’re not ready for “real” kids either. A hive scare was enough for me for now!

Oh I have lots to say. We dressed Marg up too, except she wasn't having it. Hazel is adorable!

Poor thing, my Bruiser had an allergic reaction to his shots first time and his face swelled up and he got bumps all over his body, it was so scary! Emergency Vet clinics are so expensive! I'm in the wrong business. lol
found your blog through lindsey's and i'm so glad i did…you are so funny! that dog is SO stinkin' cute! i cannot wait to see you with kids with as much as you love your dog! our dogs were our children before actual children, too. 🙂
