Now that we’re all settled in at home, I really wanted to make it a goal to get out and explore the city a little more. With so much to do and see, it would be a shame for us to get stuck in our little bubble out west. So as I was browsing this weekend’s calendar of events, I came across a Casey Donahew Band concert in Cypress–a town about 30 minutes north of us. I love this band but I really thought it was going to take a lot of convincing to get anyone (including Chris) on board. Luckily however, the Siegels were all for it and Chris was just happy to have an excuse to wear his boots! So after a delicious dinner at the New York Pizzeria, we ventured out to the one and only Cypress Saloon. I can honestly say that this place made all of my Texas dreams come true. It was a true Honky Tonk: two-stepping cowboys, great Texas music and no shortage of cold beer. Heaven!
Some highlights of the night…
- Proving my theory that all bands who go by their lead singer’s name are legit. Take for instance the Zac Brown Band, Eli Young Band, Randy Rogers Band…and of course, the Casey Donahew Band. I mean, who would want to associate their name with a crappy band?
- Staying out until 2am like we were kids again! The band didn’t go on until 11:30…2 hours after my regular bedtime 🙂
- People watching. Band groupies are the best.
- Buying not one, but two pieces of CDB gear. I have a problem, I know. I will probably never wear the Boomer Sooner shirt I bought on our junior sneak or the Boston Terrier one from our cruise stop in Key West (I know, it’s almost embarrassing to type that)…but I will definitely sport my cute new Casey Donahew ringer tee. $20 well spent in my opinion 🙂 Oh and you can never have too many camo koozies, right?!
Some pictures from the fun…
Just a couple of cowgirls…
And numero dos…
All in all it was a fantastic night! We are so lucky that Lauren and Brian moved down here just before we did…it’s so nice to have friends where we live, it’s not even funny! I can only hope that there are more Honky Tonk blog posts in my future!
