The cats may not have prevailed this weekend, but I think we did 🙂 College Station is such a fun town and we experienced as much of it as possible. Or should I say we experienced as much of Northgate as possible. Northgate is A&M’s bar district that very much resembles a place we all know and love…Aggieville.
We started the weekend off right with a little Texas fried cookin’. Just about everything on the menu at Sodolak’s Beefmaster was “chicken fried (insert meat)”. I opted for the quesadillas and judging by the waitresses face, I may have been the first person to ever do that. Here’s what Chris had. And yes, he finished the entire thing…half at dinner and half at 2am. Nasty…
The big beer trick never gets old…
Then we headed to Northgate and checked out The Dry Bean. This would be College Station’s version of Shot Stop…only it smelled musty and reminded me of the Gold Mine ride at Silver Dollar City.
My newest trick…offer to take a picture of everyone to avoid actually taking the shot myself. Tricky, huh?
Day 2, we were up an at ’em with Mimosas in the hotel room. So classy. Then it was back to Northgate and the Dixie Chicken (aka Rusty’s). Here I was introduced to frozen Boone’s Farm. Yes, it’s as delicious as it sounds.
Showing a little school spirit with their belt buckles…
Should’ve gotten a spray tan…
Eventually it was time to head to the game–oh yes, the real reason for our trip. Kyle and Laura had gotten us free tickets from one of the players, so we were in a section with the rest of their families and friends. This meant our guys needed a little pep talk…screaming profanities at Kelly and JHR probably wouldn’t be a good idea when their moms were within earshot 🙂
We all know how the game ended. Totally disappointing (which is becoming a theme), but they put up a pretty good fight. I think maybe they were just saving their energy so they could stomp on some chicken hawks next weekend. Let’s hope so anyway!
So what did that leave us to do? Eat “trashcan lid nachos”? Yes please. They really hit the spot and helped us to forget about the loss for a little while…
Next we headed to the patio of another bar to cheer against some friendly A&M fans once again. They were cheering for Kansas and we were cheering for Texas…and this time, we won 🙂
Then the pub crawl continued and we officially crossed all of the bars off of our list. Now that’s dedication! These two look much happier than they did after the game…
We were anxious to get home today and pick up our little girl from her first weekend at the “pet ranch”. She got an A on her report card and a little note from the staff:
Hazel was a ball of energy! The second she was outside, she was ready to play. She enjoyed playing with her new friends Cosmo, Tabby, Chili, Choctaw and Mackie during her playtime out. The kennel techs loved giving her all the attention and we hope to see her soon!
Hazel officially has more friends than I do in Houston! Anyway, this made me so happy and like less of a terrible mom for dropping her off for the weekend. We are so glad to have her back though!
